昔の津軽藩は綿がとれず、衣服に綿を使うことが禁止されていました。

そこで麻を着ていたのですが、目が粗いため寒く、上から糸を刺して穴を塞ぎ、寒さと擦り切れ防止にしていました（こぎん）。

また、藍染で虫よけマムシよけ、保温、擦り切れ防止もしていました。
